Bosch Boxberg Klassik 2007

The finish of the Bosch Boxberg Klassik 2007

On 23rd June 2007, 155 classic cars started from the Schlossplatz in Stuttgart on the first Bosch Boxberg Klassik. This was a premiere for Bosch Automotive Tradition, too; the Karlsruhe specialists for classic vehicle spare parts collaborated with the Bosch "Oldtimer Schrauber" (Classic Car Tinkerers) club to organize the historic rally, inaugurated by the "Schrauber" in 2000 and now extended to two days. Technology and looks made for a fascinating combination. The vehicles which appeared for technical approval by Bosch Service Partners Koller & Schwemmer and Küppers were presented in first-class condition. Among the stars were a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLS, a Ferrari 308 GTSi and a Magnum Cobra SC 427.

The popular Goliath GD 750 three-wheeled van (bearing race number 1) had the privilege of starting first. The participants enjoyed a delightful course past Bosch sites and through picturesque landscapes before reaching the end of Saturday's stage, the Bosch Development Centre in Abstatt, where the classic cars were greeted by over 4,500 Bosch employees. Before that, they had to pass numerous evaluation tests and parade before some 10,000 spectators at selected points. On Sunday, the Bosch test site at Boxberg was the destination. Reiner Dembiany from Ilsfeld-Auenstein was overall winner there for the second year running with his DKW F8.

Highlights of the 170 km route

Saturday:
following the start at the Schlossplatz in Stuttgart, the former Solitude racing circuit provided an enticing route with challenging bends, whilst the subsequent drive through Bosch headquarters at Schillerhöhe meant slowing down again. The market place in Leonberg gave the classic cars an opportunity to show spectators their best side before they completed Saturday's stage (after a pit stop at the Baumgärtner vineyard in Hohenhaslach) with a large party for employees in the Bosch Development Centre for vehicle technology in Abstatt.
Sunday:
the picturesque course of about two hours took participants through the Löwenstein hills, along the rivers Kocher and Jagst, to the Bosch test site in Boxberg, where in addition to the final evaluation tests, the traditional procession round the banked circular track turned the day into a high-speed event and made everyone feel like a Grand Prix winner.
