Silvretta Classic 2007

Bon voyage with Bosch, on the Silvretta Classic 2007

The renowned Silvretta Classic held its 10th anniversary gathering from July 5-7 2007. A fascinating line-up of 173 classic cars included a wide variety of marques and models from unique pre-war vehicles to special recent classics.

Bosch made an ambitious start with the popular Borgward Isabella from 1959, driven by Wolfgang Chur, Managing Director of Robert Bosch GmbH. Five other vehicles accompanied it to the starting grid to make up the Bosch team.

The racing team from Bosch Austria was hard at work well before the rally date. All the participating vehicles had to be thoroughly checked to be entitled to start the rally, so that Norbert Jurkowitsch and his team could be sure there were no safety problems with participating vehicles. Nothing but the poor weather at the beginning now stood in the way of the start.

Up and down the mountains, the attractive yet strenuous 3-day tour made heavy demands on Bosch's keen team as well as on the vehicles' radiators and brakes. But here too, Bosch was perfectly equipped. The Silvretta Classic 2007 enabled Bosch to reinforce its reputation as a competent technical partner. Accompanied by the Bosch racing service bus with its experienced and highly committed Austrian team, Bosch supported more than just its own participants. Many rally participants, albeit unintentionally, gratefully accepted breakdown service from Bosch. The technical team was called upon over 45 times and put numerous vehicles back on the road.

Over three days, the Silvretta Classic 2007 wound through the fabulous scenery of the Vorarlberg, the Tyrol, Graubünden and Liechtenstein. The "royal stage" on Day 2 led over two mighty Alpine passes. The 16 tricky evaluation tests, 13 time checks and 10 route checks during the rally ensured that almost all participants picked up a good number of penalty points.

At the end, the team representing Bosch put up a good show, in a field which included some first-class experienced rally drivers. Bosch's best driving team, coming 27th overall, was Jürgen Gras and his co-driver Rolf Schneider (race number 146). In total, five vehicle crews from the Bosch team came in the top 50 and were consequently named Top Team.

Bosch was once again a successful and positive part of the Silvretta Classic 2007, further reinforcing the importance of maintaining tradition.
